Six signs your child is ready for school

Setting children up for a successful transition to school is our thing.
We love to help families and educators with back to basics tips and guidance to support their children.
Here are 6 basic strategies that will assist children to achieve a successful transition to the school environment.
1. Look after their belongings.
This includes water bottles, lunch containers, socks, jumpers and school bag etc
2. Follow basic multi-step instructions.
For example “we are going to the park, please get your hat and water bottle and put them in your backpack”
3. Independently toilet.
Including pants up and down, locking and unlocking bathroom door, washing hands and wiping their own bottom.
4. Managing their emotions.
Can your child manage disappointed, missing out on a turn or losing a game?
Can they manage excitement levels and know how to calm themselves down?
5. Problem solving.
Now this is a big one!
Would your child know what to do if they couldn’t find their lunch, shoes or jumper?
6. Complete a task.
Are they able to focus on an activity for an extended amount of time (20-30 minutes) with minimal reminders or distractions?
If you answered YES to the above questions, your child is well on their way.
If you answered NO, you and your child have been plenty of time to work on the above skills before school starts.
